Biography

Dr Christopher J. Bosson (MPhys, PhD, FRSA, MRI, MInstP, AMEI) was born in 1990 in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, in the UK. He grew up there, attending the King's Academy and frequently hiking in the Lake District as well as the Yorkshire Moors and Dales.
He read physics at University College, Durham, from 2009 to 2013 and stayed there to earn his PhD in condensed matter physics from 2013 to 2018. His research sought to understand and optimise the behaviour of a novel solar-energy material to improve its photovoltaic performance, in order to lower the cost and increase the potential applications of solar electricity. Through this work he developed a wider passion for sustainability and climate change mitigation. While at Durham he was elected student president of his college, enjoyed fencing and rowing, wrote occasionally for the student newspaper, and began learning to play the piano. He also met his partner Anna.
In 2018 Chris and Anna moved to Victoria, BC, in Canada. He volunteered for several months at the Royal BC Museum before moving from academia into civil service, taking up a position in the Climate Action Secretariat of the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. There he is responsible for the economic modelling used to project the province's greenhouse gas emissions into the future, in order to inform policy development and public reporting.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys traveling, reading classic literature, and hiking or kayaking through the beautiful Vancouver Island scenery with Anna.
